How Often Should You Pump Your Septic Tank?

This is a question I get asked every day because it is important to know when and how often you should be pumping / cleaning your septic tank. The time in-between intervals is solely dependant on two things (assuming the septic system is functioning properly):
Number of occupants in the household
Size of Tank
Some systems may be required to be pumped every year, while some can last up to 10 years without having to be pumped. It is always important to know your pumping schedule as a build up in your septic tank can lead to problems such as sewage back up into your home, clogging of organic material in pipes and dispersal field and overflow from the tank causing it to leech into the surrounding ground. I have attached a rough chart to follow for time intervals on getting your septic tank pumped.

This chart can be fairly accurate for your system's pumping frequency, but, not 100%. In the event of a clog in the dispersal lines due to not being pumped enough throughout the years, a hydro flush is generally recommended to clear the lines of any organic material that has clogged. This will ensure your system is functioning properly and extend the longevity of the system.
