When you are researching for a contractor to install your septic system, one question might have popped in your head - Who Can Install a Septic System in BC?
In order to be able to install a registered septic system in British Columbia, the contractor must have obtained a stamp from ASTTBC. ASTTBC is a regulatory board in BC who governs the rules and regulations septic installers must follow. If the contractor does not have a stamp or is not working under someone who has a stamp, this means your system will not be registered with the health authority and therefore that system technically does not exist. This can cause major issues when you are selling your home or getting home insurance. If you system is not registered and you need to have it inspected for a home sale transaction, the system will be automatically failed due to it not being registered within your health district. Another issue may arise if you have any issues with your septic system that leads to an insurance claim. If the system was not installed by a Registered Onsite Waste Water Practitioner (ROWP), you may not be covered for the costs incurred from the system.
Before you receive a quote or an estimate from a septic installation contractor, ensure you verify that individual has their stamp from ASTTBC. One way to check is by verifying online at https://asttbc.org/registrants/registrant-directory/#. Always double check before committing to work with a contractor to ensure your system is registered and it doesn't bite you in the future!
